Item Scientific Research Council Act No. 33 of 1945(1945) Union of South AfricaThe document is an act to promote scientific and industrial research and has the purpose to (i) establish a South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, (ii) define the objects for which it is established, (iii) prescribe the manner in which it shall be managed and controlled, and (iv) provide for other incidental matters.Item Road transport technology 4: A system for monitoring overloaded vehicles(1995) Nordengen, Paul AThe deterioration of the road pavement is largely a function of the traffic loads acting on the pavement. Between fifteen and twenty percent of all heavy vehicles in South Africans roads are overloaded and these vehicles contribute approximately sixty per cent of the damage to the road infrastructure.Item COMRO Annual report 1992(1992) Chamber of Mines Research OrganizationThis annual report also marks an important change to the 30 year old arrangements for undertaking R&D for Chamber members.Item Chamber of Mines of South Africa Annual Report 1985(1985) Chamber of Mines Research OrganizationResearch organization Chamber of Mines of South Africa Annual Report 1985Item Chamber of Mines of South Africa annual 1977(1977) Chamber of Mines Research OrganizationChamber of Mines South Africa research and development annual report of 1977.Item Integrated ocean carbon research: A summary of ocean carbon research, and vision of coordinated ocean carbon research and observations for the next decade(France: Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO-IOC), 2021) Aricò, S; Arrieta, JM; Bakker, DC; Boyd, PW; Cotrim da Cunha, L; Chai, F; Dai, M; Gruber, N; Isensee, K; Monteiro, Pedro MOne of the major expectations from the Decade is a predicted ocean that relies on the integration of comprehensive modeling and sustainable ocean observing systems. Specific to climate change and ocean carbon, the Implementation Plan contains dedicated Ocean Decade Challenge 5: Enhance understanding of the ocean-climate nexus and use this understanding to generate solutions to mitigate, adapt and build resilience to the effects of climate change, and to improve services including improved predictions and forecasts for weather, climate, and the ocean. The IOC-R addresses key issues in ocean carbon research through a combined strategy of research and observational goals. The research will be framed by four key questions that were formulated at the inaugural Expert Workshop on Integrated Ocean Carbon Research at IOC-UNESCO (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) headquarters in Paris, France on October 28-30, 2019.Item Change of course: President talks to CSIR staff(1986) CSIRThe environment in which the CSIR functions has undergone major changes during the first 40 year, which played an important role in shaping the CSIR as it is known.Item Exploring the bioactivity of pentacyclic triterpenoids as potential antimycobacterial nutraceutics: Insights through comparative biomolecular modelling(2021-03) Tolufashe, FF; Lawal, MM; Govender, Krishna K; Shode, FO; Singh, TA group of bioactive compounds known as triterpenoids, which are often found in plant materials, have been tested to possess nutritional and pharmaceutical activity. These plant components are referred to as nutraceuticals, and are used as therapeutic agents. In this study, we explore the interactions of betulinic acid (BA), oleanolic acid (OA), ursolic acid (UA), and maslinic acid (MA) against FadA5. Studies have identified FadA5, a trifunctional enzyme-like thiolase, as a target towards Mycobacterium tuberculosis inhibition. The investigation involves molecular dynamics (MD) and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) applications. Analyses of the four pentacyclic triterpenoids binding to FadA5 showed appreciable bioactivity against FadA5. The application of two or more theoretical models to unravel ligand—enzyme binding energies can pave the way for accurate binding affinity prediction and validation.Item First premises of the CSIR at Mint, Visagie street, Pretoria(1945) CSIRThe first CSIR premises located in Pretoria at the Public Works Department adjacent to the Mint in Visagie street.Item CSIR Sciencescope Volume 14 No. 1 of 2019(CSIR publishers, 2019) CSIRThe publication of the CSIR to share the vision and multidisciplinary and multi-directional research interests encompassed in the organization.Item Managing the changing risk of fire in the South African landscape(CSIR, 2008-11) Van Wilgen, BW; Archibald, SA; Frost, PFires are a natural and common feature of many of South Africa's landscapes. They are necessary for the maintenance of healthy ecosystems and for biodiversity, but they also do extensive damage to crops, plantations, houses and livestock, and are a threat to human life. The risks associated with fires are increasing as development encroaches into fire-prone areas. In addition, these risks may increase with predicted levels of climate change. Our work has three goals: 1. To quantify the nature of the risks associated with vegetation fires 2. To assess how these risks may change in future 3. To develop early-warning systems that will help to reduce or manage these risks.Item Our Urban Future: Highlighting the growth trajectory of South Africa's settlements(2018-10) Le Roux, Alize; Arnold, Kathryn A; Makhanya, Sibusisiwe A; Mans, Gerbrand G; Wools, LSouth Africa is experiencing high levels of population expansion and urbanisation, and this growth is occurring at an increasingly rapid pace. Population change over time (growth or decline) is an inevitable phenomenon. Current projections indicate an additional 19-24 million people to be added to the national population in the next three decades, and the vast majority of this growth will be in cities and towns. Unless this growth is effectively planned for and efficiently managed, it will place enormous pressure on bulk infrastructure delivery, as well as having critical implications for national and regional policies and inter-governmental prioritisation efforts.Item The Green Building Handbook South Africa Volume 12: The Essential Guide(Cape Town: Alive2Green, 2019-02) Van Wyk, Llewellyn VAt a higher level the quality of infrastructure in South Africa continues to deteriorate and achieving sustainable infrastructure in the light of increasing demand is a key requirement for improving the quality of life of our people. A chapter is dedicated at exploring the sustainability requirements for infrastructure in South Africa. Lastly, it is time for me to say farewell and to pass on the editorship of this handbook: I am happy to announce that my colleague Peta de Jager, will take over the helm in the new year. I wish her every success in her future endeavours. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be involved in the conceptualisation and development of the Handbook over the past 12 years, and for this I am very grateful to the publishers Alive2Green and the various staff members I have had the pleasure of working with.Item Road Materials and Pavement Design, Volume 19, Issue 5(Taylor & Francis, 2018-07) De Beer, MorrisMorris de Beer is associate editor of the journal titled Road Materials and Pavement DesignItem Road Materials and Pavement Design.
