Item Comparison of in situ alloyed Ti-6Al-4V+10Mo via selective laser melting and directed energy deposition(2017-11) Madikizela, C; Cornish, LA; Chown, LH; Möller, H; Arthur, Nana KKIn situ alloying is an important topic for alloy development and improvement of mechanical properties in additive manufacturing. With the scarcity of getting most commercial titanium alloys in powder form, development and qualification of such techniques are essential. This work therefore investigates the microstructural differences and mechanical properties of Ti6Al-4V+10Mo manufactured by selective laser melting and directed energy deposition. It was found that the alloy manufactured by directed energy deposition exhibited better melting of molybdenum particles and hence a more homogeneous microstructure compared to the high power, high speed selective laser melting process.
