Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) has recently attracted lots of attention in South Africa, both in parliament and in the media. AMD is formed in the mine itself through a variety of chemical reaction pathways, before it enters the environment as polluted water. This water poses environmental and health risks in various mining and coal fields areas around South Africa. |
