National Scientific Programmes Unit: CSIR, SANSP Report 68, 1983, pp 360-7988-2623-0http://hdl.handle.net/10204/2420This publication outlines the Programme for Coastal Processes as it will exist within SANCOR for the next six years. The programme was drawn up by active researchers in the field and by executives responsible for management in the coastal zone, where the coastal zone is defined as that area within which the processes taking place have a direct bearing on coastal systems. An integrated systems approach is recommended within which physical, chemical and biological aspects and their interactions are to be studied. Processes are identified in terms of input/output to and from the coastal zone, external driving forces (including human interferences), basic features (Including habitat features) and the response and interactions within the zone. Priorities for research are recommended. In defining these priorities, emphasis is given to the study of those factors which are most needed for the understanding of the coastal zone as a whole with particular reference to those factors which will aid the understanding of the effect on the environment of human interferences.enSANSPCoastal engineeringSeacoastsCoastal processesSANCORSANCOR Programme on Coastal processes April 1982-March 1988ReportSANCOR (1983). SANCOR Programme on Coastal processes April 1982-March 1988 National Scientific Programmes Unit: CSIR.
