More recently the SCOR model has been used during the analysis of military supply chains, therefore it was decided that supply chain management in conjunction with the SCOR model should be used during a logistics and supply chain improvement project for the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). Three case studies with increasing complexity were conducted and during these case studies it was ascertained that the SCOR model did not cover the activities, with regard to material, in the SANDF supply chain sufficiently. Consequently the SCOR model had to be extended to be more suitable for the military environment.
