Solar energy can be used to produce hot water, either directly through a Solar Thermal (ST) system or indirectly through a solar photovoltaic panel that produces electricity to drive a heat pump (SHP). The heat pump and solar thermal systems, despite their initial costs and challenges, have proven to be efficient solutions for heat generation and energy cost savings. Both systems have demonstrated significant monthly energy production and savings, with the heat pump system having a return on investment (ROI) period of approximately 7.3 years, and the solar thermal system having a shorter ROI period of approximately 3.4 years. The comparative performance of these systems suggests that a hybrid system, combining the strengths of both, could potentially outperform each individual system.
