This is the pre-print version of the work. The definitive version is published in Applied Physics B: Lasers and Optics, Vol. 117(3), pp 861-867.The intensity-dependent refractive index n(sub2) and the nonlinear susceptibility X(sup3) of Hibiscus Sabdariffa dye solutions in the nanosecond regime at 532 nm are reported. More presicely, the variation of n(sub 2), ß, and real and imaginary parts of x(sup 3) versus the natural dye extract concentration has been carried out by z-scan and optical limiting techniques. The third-order nonlinearity of the Hibiscus Sabdariffa dye solutions was found to be dominated by nonlinear refraction, which leads to strong optical limiting of laser.enNonlinear opticalNLOZ-scanOptical limitingIntensity-dependent refractive indexNonlinear susceptibilitySabdariffa dyeZ-scan and optical limiting properties of Hibiscus sabdariffa dyeArticleMaaza, M., Diallo, A., Zongo, S., Mthunzi, P., Soboyejo, W., Alqaradawi, S., & Rehman, S.
