In addition one test was carried out with bituminous coal, fired according to a method which is frequently applied in practice, viz. the fire was kindled with 3 kg of wood and 15 kg coal ; a further 15 kg of coal was charged 20 minutes after lighting up; after a second interval of 20 minutes the furnace was filled to capacity, which took 70 kg of coal.
