Second Annual State of Logistics Survey for South Africa: Defining research priorities for developmental logistics, 44p0798855592http://hdl.handle.net/10204/2760In the first State of Logistics in 2004 the need for measurement and revitalisation of basic infrastructure in South Africa' dual economy was accentuated. The process of addressing these needs has started with the release of the National Freight Logistics Strategy, which delineates a comprehensive development framework, as well as Spoornet's growth plans for recapitalisation. This survey reflects the supply-chain innovation of the chemicals, processed foods and logistics service provider industries. The nature of supply-chain innovation reflects the varying levels of supply-chain maturity across the industries, as well as the fundamental challenges experienced by these industries. The high level of supply-chain maturity of the bulk chemical industry is reflected in the move to cross-industry collaboration to improve the utilisation of the national logistics infrastructure. The research is focused on: structural inefficiencies in the logistics system; logistics modelling with both a macro-economic and industry focus; strategies for improved supply-chain efficiency; strategies for reducing the logistics divide; logistics for improved government service delivery.enLogistics systemSupply-chain efficiencyLogistics surveyLogistics modellingSecond annual state of logistics survey for South Africa: Defining research priorities for developmental logisticsReportIttmann, H., Meyer, I., Marais, M.
