Properties of polymer - and fibre-modified porous asphalt mixes. 6th Conference on Asphalt Pavements for Southern Africa, Cape Town, October 1994, pp 262-2801-874968-05-5http://hdl.handle.net/10204/17161994: 6th Conference on Asphalt Pavements for Southern Africa, Cape TownIn view of the increasing traffic volumes in South Africa and especially with regard to the impact of that on noise pollution and wet-weather accident rates in urban areas, the Southern African Bitumen and Tar Association expressed a need for an investigation into porous asphalt, which, in recent years, has become popular in European countries for addressing environmental and safety needs. A project focusing on the use and properties of porous asphalt mixes containing polymers and cellulose fibres was defined. This paper addresses the relative performance of modified porous asphalt mixes and aspects relating to the design of such mixes, based on a laboratory study. It was found that polymer-modification of the binder enhances the relevant engineering properties of porous asphalt.enInfrastructure materialsDesignMaintenanceProperties of polymer - and fibre-modified porous asphalt mixesConference PresentationVerhaeghe, B.
