dc.description.abstract In order to manage and conserve wetland resources effectively in South Africa, it is essential to have accurate information on their location and boundaries. The need for an inventory of this nature has also been accentuated through various international conventions and legislation. To this end, the Department of Environment Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) commissioned the Wetland Inventory Consortium, comprising the CSIR, Geospace International, Wetland Consulting Services and the Institute of Natural Resources, to execute a pilot project to develop tools and method for establishing a cost-effective, accurate and comprehensive National Wetland Inventory. en_US
