dc.description.abstract Water scarcity combined with the quality deterioration of freshwater due to the rapid augmentation of population and industrial development is a major concern in many parts of the world. More than 50% of European countries are being affected by water stress issues while under the current circumstances it is also predicted that by 2025, nearly 2.4 billion of the world population will be confronted with severe water stress situations with less than 1000m(sup3)/year of freshwater available per person. en_US
