dc.description.abstract The artificial radiocarbon produced by the thermonuclear bomb tests in the 1950s and 1960s significantly increased the level of C-14 in the environment. A detailed record of the subsequent changes in the C-14 concentration of the atmosphere can be used to date plant and animal material accurately over the past half century. Examples of this application are given. en
