dc.description.abstract In its last Annual Report, the Council drew attention to the important role it is called upon to play in stimulating the development of research in industry. It was pointed out that, for the first fifteen years of its existence, the Council has been concerned primarily with building up an organization to meet the most obvious needs and that there were indications that it is at last in a position to meet basic requirements. A start has now been made with reviewing all aspects of the Council’s policy and operations, in order to ensure that existing resources are being used most effectively, and to reveal any gaps in the coverage of the Council’s research programme in relation to the needs of the industry, as well as in fields of broader national interest. en_US
