The report describes an experiment carried out at Hartebeesfontein Gold Mine, No. 6 Shaft, 77 N 25 Stope between October 1985 and November 1986, which involved mining two panels without back-area support and with different support resistances in the face area. The aim was to determine the influence of the support systems on face conditions and to examine fracturing around the stope area.
