dc.description.abstract The concept of fingerprint classification is an important one because of the need to, before executing a database search procedure, virtually break the fingerprint template database into smaller, manageable partitions. This is done in order to avoid having to search the entire template database and, for this reason, minimize the database search time and improve the overall performance of an automated fingerprint recognition system. en_US
