dc.description.abstract This paper presents findings of a study to investigate the advisability and feasibility of establishing a transport authority (TA) in the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) with a view to strengthening transport service delivery in the district. Given the triple role played by transport in the economy - as a direct provider of services, as a generator of employment and as a catalyst for economic integration, redistribution and development, the provision, operation and maintenance of transport infrastructure and services are thus key factors in developmental local development. The need to ensure that CDM's transportation system is functioning at optimal levels is therefore clear. en
