dc.description.abstract This chapter presents an overview of some important surface modification techniques employed for improved functional behaviour of textiles. Textile materials are used in a variety of applications where surface modification is of profound importance as it improves various properties – such as softness, dyeability, absorbance and wettability. In this chapter, the most commonly used surface modification techniques, ranging from plasma treatment to nanocoatings, for both natural and synthetic fibres have been discussed. Recent studies involving the modification and characterisation of textiles have also been highlighted. en
