dc.description.abstract A 3rd party 3-dimensional visualization tool (developed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)) is being used to visualize and assist with the development of a synthetic environment for joint command and control technology research. The visualization tool is based on the OpenSceneGraph toolkit and dynamically linked to a discrete event simulation environment. The visualization interface allows the visual scene to be efficiently and effectively updated from simulation events. A graphical user interface is also incorporated to manage the visual scene. The 3D visualization tool has recently been used to develop a simulated joint air picture display console towards the realization of automated decision support. This paper will report on the various techniques investigated for visualizing the air picture, sensor fusion and track management information from a Quantized Discrete Event Simulation Environment. Experiments were also done with various techniques for real time user interaction with the display console. The resulting joint air picture display console has already been successfully demonstrated during defence force interoperability exercises. en
