In this report an attempt is made to synthesis available information on the Botriviervlei and Kleimond estuary. The name Bot River is probably a direct reference to the slow flowing nature of the river and derived from bot, while Kleinmond estuary derives its name from the fact that it used to be the mouth of the Little Bot River. Research has increasingly shown that the two have close links and must be regarded as one system. This has not always been recognised and consequently more information is available on the Bot vlei than on the Kleinmond estuary.
