dc.description Shaping the future. Planning Africa Conference 2008 en
dc.description.abstract Planning the built environment is, or should be, also about providing and managing (i.e. operating and maintaining) this environment, viz. the engineering infrastructure (much of which is underground), structures and public amenities. However, never mind hoe well these are planned and constructed; they are often not well managed. The paper briefly summarises the main research into the state of the built environment in South Africa and what is needed for that built environment to be sustainably managed, and it describes the most important of the national initiatives to address the management of our infrastructure en
