dc.description.abstract The Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) has recently initiated the Woodlot Devolution Programme. The aim of the programme is too hand over ownership, control and management of woodlots to communities with established rights to the land on which they are planted, in such a way that local economic development is enhanced. The brief given to the researchers was to draw up a situational analysis of Longweni woodlot, to identify the main role players and the main issues that will need to be considered and dealt with in any devolution process.
