This study represents a quantitative survey of the impact of the climate and weather on the activities of the building and construction industry in South Africa. Seasonal productivity problems, the seasonal provision of special facilities and the seasonal use of special techniques are, amongst others, assessed. From these results it is apparent that the building and construction industry has not yet developed a sophisticated response to varying climatological conditions. The influence of weather variables and weather forecasts are discussed. It appears that most companies are aware of the weather impact, but do not really plan ahead because of doubts about the accuracy of weather forecasts Recommendations are made which could improve the productivity in the South African building and construction industry
