Research into the management of grassland communities in South Africa spans a period of more than 50 years. The work has covered a wide range of topics relating to the form and function of grassland communities, and has had as its main objective the development of an understanding of how these communities can best be managed to ensure their sustained producti¬vity, or indeed to increase their productivity. This publication serves to highlight the main work which has been undertaken in this biome, with the primary intention of providing a ready access to the South African literature on research in the grassland biome.
