| Abstract: | This article deals with a review of the literature covering several aspects of HIV/AIDS and related disease in South Africa. These include social, behavioural, epidemiological, clinical and molecular studies. During the first period covered in this review, 1983 to 1989, the focus of the scientific research was on men who have sex with men and on AIDS. However, several papers discussed the likely impacts of the epidemic and warned of the threat posed by HIV/AIDS to South Africa. |
