| Abstract: | Technologies developed at the CSIR as part of the Sabita ARP research programme over the last five years have been implemented successfully in a number of instances. Significant benefits (tangible as well as intangible) have accrued to the asphalt industry from this programme. The broader roads industry, users and the community have also benefitted in terms of savings, an improved road network as well as improved funtionality of roads resulting in reduced transport costs and improved road safety. A measure of the success of the programme was the extent of the participation of road authorities and especially the Department of Transport in particularly the Heavy Vehicle Simulator testing of trial sections containing some of the new technologies. |
