The primary output of this report was the determination of geotechnical areas across the gold and platinum mines to form the basis for future understanding of the rock mass behaviour around reefs where the hanging wall and footwall rock types differ, leading to improved site specific support systems for both static and dynamic loading. Nine sub-outputs contributed towards this objective, and a brief summary of the research methodologies, principal findings and salient conclusions are discussed.
