dc.description.abstract Technology is transforming the games themselves and at times with dire consequences. Tony Kirkbride, Head: CSIR Technology Centre said there are a variety of sports technologies and there have been advances in material sciences and advances in design and manufacturing to virtual reality. There are carbon fiber materials used and in performance analysis that use video base technology. In the 1999 cricket World Cup, small earphones were used for Hansie to communicate with the coach and were later on banned. Over the years sport technology has changed, in the modern day real-time feedback is the key issue. South Africa has a wide range of technology, and there is now the use of notational technology, which does not require the use of paper. Dr Tony Kirkbride explains that all sports are affected by technology, for example Formula 1, thrives on technology and even the less realized sports like lawn ball.
