dc.description 2006: 25th Southern African Transport Conference en
dc.description.abstract The paper addresses two different heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS) studies conducted on concrete: Load transfer through aggregate interlock and the use of dowels and the evaluation of the performance of an in-service continuously reinforced concrete inlay on National Route 3 near Pietermaritzburg. The paper also presents the final outcome of the study in terms of theoretically based equations that were adjusted using regression techniques to fit the field experience. These equations have now been incorporated into a mechanistically-based design method for concrete pavements, namely cncPave. en
